Johanna ThibaultI am  an environmental and energy law attorney, and the primary contributor and creator of Green Trees & Legalese.  A graduate of Vermont Law School, I worked for the Department of Justice's Environmental and Natural Resources Department; the New York Attorney General's Office, Environmental Protection Bureau; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Atomic and Safety Licensing Board Panel; and as a legal assistance attorney for the United States Army.

In addition to my public sector experience, I also clerked for the National Wildlife Federation in Montpelier, Vermont, and for a local law firm in Orange County, Vermont, while earning my JD.  Before law school I spent nearly a decade with the private sector as an environmental planner and manager in both Colorado and California.  My projects included primarily infrastructure for energy, telecommunications, and water clients in both the public and private arenas.  My specialty was environmental compliance and permitting, so I negotiated with regulatory agencies (or for them) and rubbed elbows and kept in line construction workers that were easily three times my size. Prior to that I was an environmental dreamer and true tree hugger. I did field work on pupfish, I was an aquarist and aquarium manager for a large commercial facility, and I did a little dolphin training.

I love the law, and I especially love the intricacies of environmental law and policy.  I currently live in Bamberg, Germany with my husband who is in the Army, and our son, River.  I created this blog so that I could contribute to the legal world and keep myself and others apprised as to the events affecting our environment.  I hope you enjoy the blog, and I look forward to your comments and submissions.
